Fitness Network Australia: How to Work Out During Rainy Weather

It may be raining outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to let the rain give you an excuse not to exercise. You can still have a good workout inside or outside the home, even if it’s raining.

Decide to stay inside?

Do HIIT or Circuit workouts

If you have enough space indoors or have a dry and covered patio, try doing circuit fashion exercises. Circuits give you strength exercises and cardio all in one workout. Or find an HIIT routine that you can easily follow and do indoors.

Workout videos

Why not add some fun to your indoor exercises. Today’s technology allows you to search from countless YouTube and other video workouts. You can choose from many workout fitness channels, maybe select yoga or Pilates, or do some heavy HIIT workouts. And these workout videos also mean you don’t need any equipment.

A note on chafing

Since it’s humid outside, the heat goes up a little inside the house. Chafing is a common occurrence, especially if repetitive movements are concerned. When clothing is wet, chafing is more likely to occur. To avoid chafing, use lubricants like Vaseline on your thighs, toes, heels, and anywhere that has given you chafing problems in the past.

If the rain isn’t that heavy and you decide to go outside

Exercising outside

Because of the wet and slippery surfaces, you may want to forego activities like running and cycling. If you’re going to jog, do it at a slow and precise pace. For other exercises, make sure your movements are precise and not overly repetitive. Change clothes immediately or take a shower after you finish.

Safety

If you do decide to jog or a walkathon outside in the light rain, make sure you are visible to cars and other pedestrians. Wear bright clothing or anything with reflective strips. Wear a baseball cap to keep the rain away from the eyes. You can attach a headlamp for extra safety.
